What is a Gemstone - The Definition of Earth Glamour

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

A Natural Hematite Gemstone

“Wait for a Diamond not a stone“.

This might have meant to be a woman’s empowerment quote on marriage, but the truth is, a Diamond is a stone - a gemstone. When a collected stone is considered beautiful and strong enough (or have a good hardness) to be fashioned as jewelry, it is then considered a gemstone. Gemstones are mostly minerals. Some are given country names in attempts to increase its value such as, Mexican jade. Certain materials known as ‘gems’ are not naturally from rock and are called ‘organics’. This is because they come from organisms like plants and animals. Examples are the irritants of shellfish- the pearl, the fossilized resin of a tree- amber, and the skeletal remains of coral- polyp. Diamond, quartz, and the like are all gemstones and made of rock. Many famous gems even have their own names. “St, Edward’s Sapphire in the British Imperial State Crown was reputedly worn by Edward the Confessor almost 1000 years ago. Another stone in this crown is the Black Prince’s Ruby given time Edward the Black Prince in 1366 by Pedro the Cruel of Spain.“ it is noted that the gemstone might even be Red Spinel, not Ruby. So, if anything, wait for the stone of your dreams....or gemstone that is ;)
